pick raw for better quality

The moment you leave Auto mode for a Creative Zone, such as A or M a further picture quality setting is unlocked-the ability to take photos in RAW instead of JPEG.

JPEG is convenient, but it's a compressed file format, which means your D-SLR has to throw away some photo information in order to create a smaller file that can be read by photo software. RAW on the other hand, gives you the pure data your camera captured.

One of the big advantages of shooting in RAW is the additional image data gives you more control in Adobe to change the settings after the event. By using Adobe Camera Raw features you can change the sunset in the picture below by adjusting the white balance manually.

Note that RAW files are larger than JPEGs, so you can’t fit as many on your memory card.
